Prime Video has published the first teaser for Heads of State, an upcoming action comedy starring DCU actors John Cena and Idris Elba as Will Derringer, President of the United States, and Sam Clarke, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.  The trailer previews the two characters' "debut duet," and they could be the combo we never knew we needed—or, at the very least, the one we needed again after their previous team-up as Peacemaker and Bloodsport in James Gunn's 2021 superhero blockbuster The Suicide Squad.

DCU stars John Cena and Idris Elba reunite in an action comedy set to stream.

The action-packed trailer for Heads of State (seen below) shows Cena and Elba venturing into new terrain as world leaders.  The trailers show a rivalry between Derringer, a former fame-hungry Hollywood star, and Clarke, a straight-talking government official, which, according to the film's synopsis, could "risk their countries' alliance."  However, they discover that two brains are better than one when they find themselves as "targets of a powerful enemy" and "go on a wild, multinational run" to "thwart a conspiracy that threatens the free world."

The unlikely pair will not have to fight for their survival alone, as the trailer teases an important role for Amazon's newest action star, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who previously starred alongside Rob Madden in the spy action series Citadel, executive produced by the Russo brothers.  In Heads of State, she plays MI6 agent Noel Bisset, who appears to be a key role in the tale.  "A lot of people want you dead," she says in the trailer, adding, "My mission is to deliver you to the most secure location on this continent."

"Heads of State" Sets Its Streaming Debut This Summer

Heads of State's teaser confirms that the action comedy will be available for streaming on Prime Video on July 2 - the same month that The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 will be released.  The latest Cena and Elba collaboration comes from Nobody director Ilya Naishuller, with a narrative by Josh Appelbaum, AndrĂ© Nemec, and Harrison Query.  DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, together with John Rickard and executive producers Cena, Elba, Nemec, and Marcus Viscidi, is producing the movie with the DCU actors.

Heads of State's star-studded cast includes Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Stephen Root (Barry), Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), and Richard Coyle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).  Their roles in the film have not been revealed officially, but Jack Quaid, who stars as Hughie Campbell in Prime Video's satirical superhero series The Boys, appears to be well-prepared for whatever obstacles await him in the film, which follows Companion and Novocaine.
