David Leitch, the former stunt performer who went on to direct smash action films including Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, has recently signed on for his next project. Along director Chad Stahelski (John Wick) and Sam Hargrave (Extraction), Leitch has been at the vanguard of pushing the frontiers of action cinema, as well as fighting for stunt performers to be honored at the Academy Awards. Following on from 2024's The Fall Guy, Leitch and the 87North production firm have secured their next project, an original action thriller called Fight.
According to a new Deadline story, Universal Pictures and 87North have acquired Flight, with David Leitch scheduled to direct. Plot details have not been published, although the film is based on a spec script written by Nathaniel Halpern (Tales from the Loop, Legion). The film is being produced by Leitch and Kelly McCormick under the label 87North, in collaboration with Universal Pictures.
While the film's narrative remains unknown, fans have a fair concept of what it will be about. If you hadn't guessed from the title, Fight, the picture is intended to be an all-out action feature, similar to Leitch's previous work on Atomic Blonde and the John Wick franchise. 87Eleven and its sister firms, including 87North, have built a reputation for amazing stunt work and action choreography. Whatever Fight is about, you can expect extreme action.
David Leitch already has another action film in the works.
While fans of the action genre will have to wait an undefined amount of time before Fight goes into production and hits theaters, Leitch has another action feature lined up. How to Rob a Bank is David Leitch's next film. The project will begin shooting this summer. Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson, two unexpected action stars, will spearhead the project.
The film was only announced last month, and, like Fight, storyline specifics have yet to be published. However, just like Fight, you may make an educated estimate about what How to Rob a Bank will be about. It is unclear whether the picture would be the type of all-out action movie Leitch is usually known for, or if it will be more of a heist thriller, considering the title. Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson aren't the first actors that come to mind when you think of high-octane action films. However, Ryan Gosling was not a stunt performer till The Fall Guy made him an honorary one.
Nicholas Hoult will face off against the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman before starring in an action picture, How to Rob a Bank. Hoult plays Lex Luthor in the film and is likely to have a long DCU career if the film is successful when it opens in theaters this July.
