Kevin Hart and Netflix are becoming a dynamic combo, with amusing comedy joining their collaborations, including a new production helmed by Ride Along's Tim Story.  Hart is slated to star in the comedy 72 Hours, which marks a reunion between the comedian and Story, who previously collaborated on the Ride Along film series.  Hartbeat (Kevin's global production firm) and Counterbalance will produce.  Will Packer, who previously collaborated with Hart on the 2019 picture Night School starring Tiffany Haddish, will also produce.  Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg authored the script a decade ago, and it serves as the basis for the project.

According to Deadline, the plot revolves around a 40-year-old CEO hoping to preserve his career by meeting a bunch of people in their twenties.  After being added to their group chat, he attends a three-day bachelor celebration.  Ross Fanger, the production manager for Planet of the Apes (2001), Fantastic Four (2005), X-Men: The Last Sound (2006), and The Grey (2011), will serve as executive producer.  72 Hours is being produced through Netflix's relationship with Sony Pictures, which began in 2021.  It provides Netflix a first look at any movie that the firm intends to produce for streaming.

Kevin Hart's signing on to play the lead role has given new attention to the project.  Davis Entertainment has been the driving force behind the plot since Hurwitz and Schlossberg initially wrote it.  With Hart's name attached, Netflix prioritized the comedic flick.  The latest initiative is just one component of Hart and his production company's ambition to deliver new comedy to the streaming platform.  One example is Lift, a film about a professional thief and his experienced crew attempting the ultimate heist: stealing $500 million in gold.  Other events include The Roast of Tom Brady, which Hart hosted, and Kevin Hart & Chris Rock: Headliners Only.

"Ride Along" double its budget at the box office.

When Tim Story directed Ride Along, he had previous experience working with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.  Story directed Ice Cube's first Barbershop film in 2005, and he collaborated with Kevin Hart on Think Like A Man in 2012, which was produced by Will Packer and based on Steve Harvey's 2009 book "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man."  So, in 2014, when he directed the buddy police comedy picture, it only strengthened his bond with both of the multi-talented creatives.

Ride Along opened on January 17, 2014, with a $25 million budget and grossed $154 million at the box office.  It grossed roughly $41 million over its three-day opening weekend, setting the previous record for the highest domestic opening weekend in January.  It topped the US box office for three weeks.
