When Pete Davidson begged Lorne Michaels to dismiss him from Saturday Night Live, he was acting like a child, and he knows it. However, when you listen to his justification, it seems reasonable and perhaps even slightly sympathetic, especially given that Davidson was just 21 when he joined the group.

The actor-comedian stated in an interview for his new documentary film SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night (via Deadline) that he demanded a meeting with Michaels to request his dismissal from the team following his debut season. mostly because he believed he was disliked by the staff and actors.

"After my first year, I actually called for a meeting with Lorne, and I was like, 'Please fire me,'" Davidson recalled in the series. "And he was like, 'Why?'" "I don't belong here," Davidson claims he said. They don't want to be my friends, even though everyone here is incredibly skilled." It is a very 21-year-old reaction to his coworkers who might not like him.

Fortunately for him, Michaels was a little more forgiving of Davidson's nervousness during the meeting where he nearly lost his job. The actor claimed that he told him, "You don't figure it out until your third or fourth year." "It's just gonna suck for three or four years' and I was like, 'All right,' and he was right."

The comedy career of Pete Davidson is just getting started.

It's possible that Davidson questioned, "How the f**k did I get this show?" He said in the first episode of the documentary series that "it's wild to see the hope in one's eye" after seeing his audition tape, but his most recent work demonstrates that his development and progress are still ongoing. especially when his dating life turned into somewhat of a media attraction.

In 2014, as Saturday Night Live entered its 40th season, Davidson became one of the show's youngest cast members ever recruited. After eight seasons, he departed the venerable sketch series in May 2022.

However, it should be mentioned that he periodically makes a comeback to Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center to make an appearance, particularly whenever former SNL writer (and well-known comic in his own right) John Mulaney hosts. In an interview with W Magazine, the actor, who just entered the fashion industry, stated that he has been "laying low" on purpose for some time, which has been beneficial to his physical and emotional well-being.

The stand-up comedian has since co-written and starred in the semi-autobiographical comedy-drama film The King of Staten Island (2020) and the similarly semi-autobiographical Peacock series, 2023's Bupkis, following his appearance on Saturday Night Live. The show was picked up for a second season despite the latter project's poor reviews, but Davidson ultimately decided not to proceed (at least for the time being). Rather, he has persisted in starring and making appearances in a number of motion pictures, such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Suicide Squad, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and the upcoming Dog Man feature. In 2024, he also released Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli, his third comedy special.
