The cast of Scream 7 continues to expand when filming finally gets begun. With the return of one of the "core four" introduced in the 2022 installment, Jasmin Savoy Brown, the cast for the seventh installment in the horror franchise is beginning to take shape after a contentious development period that included the firing of Melissa Barrera, star of Scream VI, and Jenna Ortega's departure.

It was reported in a recent Variety story that Jasmin Savory Brown would play Mindy Meeks-Martin again in Scream 7. Mason Gooding's Chad's twin sister, Mindy Meeks-Martin, is the nephew of Jamie Kennedy's Randy Martin from Scream and Scream 2.
Mindy, the first openly gay character in the franchise's history, was portrayed by Brown in the 2022 film Scream and the follow-up Scream 6. Her portrayal of Teen Taissa Turner in the popular Showtime series Yellowjackets is another reason for her notoriety.
Retconning their previous plan for her husband to be Patrick Dempsey's Mark Kincaid from Scream 3, the announcement of Jasmin Savory Brown's return for Scream 7 coincides with the confirmation that Joel McHale would be Sidney Prescott's husband, Mark Evans.
Neve Campbell is making a comeback as series heroine Sidney Prescott after missing the sixth movie. Courtney Cox, who portrays Gale Weathers, and Gooding, who plays the previously mentioned Chad Meeks-Martin, will both be returning. Isabel May (1883) will play Sidney and Mark's kid in the franchise, while unconfirmed parts will be played by Celeste O'Connor (Madame Web), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (Gen V), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), and Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect).
The Challenging Production of "Scream 7"
Scream 7 |
With Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding reprising their parts as the Meeks-Martin twins, the plot of Scream and Scream VI will undoubtedly seem more cohesive. But without Barrera and Ortega coming back as Tara Carpenter and Sam Carpenter, respectively, it still feels lacking. Barrera and Ortega were initially scheduled to return for Scream 7, but Barrera was allegedly sacked by Spyglass Media on November 21, 2023, for criticizing the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega left Scream 7 the next day. It was reported that it was due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2, though many noted that the announcement's timing seemed to suggest more than scheduling conflicts.
Fans of the series were furious at Barrera's termination, and Spyglass Media went on the defense to try to regain the public's support. In an effort to win back fans, the studio eventually paid Neve Campbell to reprise her role in Scream 7 after she was unable to do so due to a salary dispute for Scream VI. Following the immediate outrage over Barrera's dismissal, Happy Death Day filmmaker Christopher Landon withdrew from his initial plans to direct Scream 7, leaving franchise writer and producer Kevin Williamson to direct the latest installment.
Although the inclusion of Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding is commendable, it seems as though Scream 7 is following the same template, this time with Sidney Prescott's children, reversing all the wonderful momentum that Scream VI established for the franchise.
The release date of Scream 7 is February 27, 2026.
